Hot Patterns Joyful Top

In honor of Valentine’s Day, Hot Patterns released a FREE downloadable pattern.  Have I told you all how much I love FREE???    LOL.  I LOVE FREE.   Anyway, I saw it and thought it was really cute, so I printed it off immediately and made a test run today.

Here are the results…(Fabric is courtesy of an old bedsheet.)

I think it looks really cute, and in the right fabric(s) it will be awesome.

The only trouble I had is where the shoulders and front connect.  I was sewing imprecisely and did each shoulder seam incorrectly!

I’m a member of the hot patterns sewing group on facebook and I asked for tips on how to do that better.  So many good ideas!  By the time I get around to the final version, I’ll have it all worked out.

Speaking of the final version, I’m not sure what fabric I’m going to use.  This top is designed so that you can mix it up if you want, mixing wovens and knits.  I want to go down and see what I can find in the stash that goes together well.  Picking out fabrics is one of my favorite things…and if I use three different fabrics, I really don’t need that much of any single one, so I may be able to use up some scraps.   We’ll see!

Happy Sewing!

  1. Hmmm I should go look at that one. I had a top with a collar like that long ago. I really liked it and haven’t seen it since.

  3. Linda, it’s a great little pattern! I made up the size to match my measurements and I like how it fits!! I didn’t get much time in the sewing room today, but you can bet that I’m mentally picking out fabrics to use on it! 🙂
