In honor of Valentine’s Day, Hot Patterns released a FREE downloadable pattern. Have I told you all how much I love FREE??? LOL. I LOVE FREE. Anyway, I saw it and thought it was really cute, so I printed it off immediately and made a test run today.
Here are the results…(Fabric is courtesy of an old bedsheet.)
On the dressform:
I think it looks really cute, and in the right fabric(s) it will be awesome.
The only trouble I had is where the shoulders and front connect. I was sewing imprecisely and did each shoulder seam incorrectly!
I’m a member of the hot patterns sewing group on facebook and I asked for tips on how to do that better. So many good ideas! By the time I get around to the final version, I’ll have it all worked out.
Speaking of the final version, I’m not sure what fabric I’m going to use. This top is designed so that you can mix it up if you want, mixing wovens and knits. I want to go down and see what I can find in the stash that goes together well. Picking out fabrics is one of my favorite things…and if I use three different fabrics, I really don’t need that much of any single one, so I may be able to use up some scraps. We’ll see!
Happy Sewing!
Hmmm I should go look at that one. I had a top with a collar like that long ago. I really liked it and haven’t seen it since.
Looking good…..thanks for sharing, i’ve just downloaded the free pattern.
Thanks!!! It’s a great little pattern…and a free way to try hot patterns if you’ve never used them before! If you print off any of the hot patterns there are two tricks! First, when you print, make sure you turn off the “fit to page” selection. Print out the test square and then measure….then, when taping together, you butt the pages right up against each other. There shouldn’t be overlap. I read that tip on the hot patterns facebook page and I was amazed. I’ve always cut off part of the margin and then tried to match the lines exactly, but according to Trudy, that’s not you do it with hers. There’s other free hot patterns on fabric.com if you want other freebies to try! https://www.fabric.com/creativity-headquarters-free-pattern-downloads.aspx?cm_mmc=Pattern+DL-_-Free+Pattern+Download-_-Hot+Patterns-_-CupidCamiTap&webSyncID=0c8edbc5-babb-9270-4065-bb33b647a9c5&sessionGUID=2bacf601-2b20-4843-8d92-fa11b9023372
Thanks for the link…..all them free patterns! Can’t believe I’ve not stumbled across that before! 😀
Linda, it’s a great little pattern! I made up the size to match my measurements and I like how it fits!! I didn’t get much time in the sewing room today, but you can bet that I’m mentally picking out fabrics to use on it! 🙂
Thank you, Emily! And I thanked you on my blog post, http://cocosloft.blogspot.com/2015/02/made-joyful-joyful-top-from-hot-patterns.html
Couldn’t have done it without you! Coco

Hi, very nice.
Where can I find the pattern?
Hi Aga,
This was a freebie on the Hotpatterns website to celebrate Valentine’s day or something. I don’t see it posted there, but send me an email. Immelu@yahoo.com
